Mother’s Day is of course a holiday to honor the moms in
our lives that is observed in different forms throughout the world. In 1872
Julia Ward Howe requested a celebration called a "Mother's Day for
Peace" on 2 June of every year, though it was unsuccessful. Anna Jarvis in
1908 created the American incarnation of Mother’s Day and it became an official
U.S. holiday in 1914. Other countries previously celebrated the honoring of
motherhood, and those celebrations have utilized many of the characteristics
from the US holiday, such as giving carnations and other gifts to your own
mother. Most commonly Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May.
Traditionally it includes giving moms flowers, cards and in this case, jewelry
